Horrible news - NASA lost communication with space shuttle Columbia shortly before it was supposed to land this morning. I was very little when the Challenger exploded [2], but I remember my parents’ reactions to the event, or even photos of the event years after. I hope and pray that that tragedy is not repeated.
According to the news, the shuttle was traveling at Mach-6, meaning that there was no way for the crew to eject. They were also at 200,000 feet (once again, traveling at Mach-6), meaning that a terrorist attack is highly unlikely.
More updates - eye witnesses report that the shuttle broke up in the atmosphere with significant pieces coming off the rear during re-entry.

I happened to be listening to the radio and they cut to President Bush’s speech about it in which he quotes Isaiah 40:26 “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” He desired that not one of the crew is missing from God in heaven, and asked for prayer for the families.
