Justice Department decries ‘terrorist tipoff’ amendment

So why should you take ACLU’s side on this? Think about the implications of the word “terrorist” - it’s a slippery slope. Certainly the abortion protesters that bomb clinics and shoot doctors are terrorists, in the true sense of the word.

Suppose a liberal-minded Attorney General were to extend that to some less-radical forms of protest. Say, for example, pro-lifers that picket clinics with gruesome pictures of abortions. A good lawyer could stretch “terrorism” to cover this as well, which would mean the government could search their homes without prior notification.

Last I checked the results of the CNN poll that accompanied the story, the majority were overwhelmingly in favor of giving the government this power, which really ticks me off.

There’s good reason for people across the whole spectrum of political and ideological persuasions to oppose giving the government this power. Remember above all, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
