So what film am I most looking forward to seeing this year? The Matrix: Revolution? Lord of the Rings: Return of the King?
Nope.
Passion.
Mel Gibson’s controversial ‘Passion’
I see this film as something that MUST be seen, though if it is as powerful and convicting as Cal Thomas portrayed it, I believe Satan will pull out the stops to prevent it from showing to a wide audience.
Also, on a side note, I did a double take on the quotes from the Catholic professor Sister Mary C. Boys, when she gave her concerns about anti-Semitism:
“It seems to me that the film looked on Jews as antagonists, Jesus as this perfect victim”
I don’t know the context this quote came in, and I know nothing about Sister Boys. Those disclaimers aside, I take great issue with her statement: Jesus WAS the perfect victim. If he wasn’t, what would be the point of the crucifixion? If there was ever a perfect victim, in the true sense of the words, Jesus was it.
Secondy, some Jews WERE the antagonists. To pretend otherwise is to institute a revisionist history. History, as ugly and non-PC as it is, must not be tampered with. The Pharisees, as the religious movement favored by the Romans (and hence given the majority of the political power within the Jewish culture) were threatened by the perceived political aspirations of a messiah (ie, the whole military leader who will free the Jews image the Zealots had). Didn’t help that Jesus’ spiritual teachings often contradicted tenets the Pharisees held dear. They were constantly antagonizing Jesus throughout his teaching years; this is clearly evident in all of the Gospels. They were the instigators and plotters behind his crucifixion.
Are the above statements anti-Semetic? No way. Not even close. Jesus was a Jew. The first Christians were Jews. To rationalize anti-Semitism because the Pharisees plotted Jesus’ death is ignorance. To turn a blind eye on the Pharisees’ role in Jesus’ death because they were Jews is equally ignorant.

While I clearly can’t spell “secondly”, I hope my history lesson is fairly accurate. Any insights into this issue based on your experience/travels Gauntlet?
