Jetsons, Ho! Dress the Kelly
Feb 16

My parents (Mom and Dad A.) were up for a skiing trip this Valentine’s Day weekend. Plan A called for Kelly, myself, her mom (Mom J.), three of her cousins, Mom and Dad A. and Calvin Janes (one of my old college roomies and proprietor of “siteslumber.com”:http://www.siteslumber.com/) to hit the slopes at “Crystal Mountain”:http://www.ridecrystalmountain.com. Upon arrival, we found out that they were out of ski boots in sizes 9, 10, 11, and 12, due to the holiday weekend rush. Kelly, Mom J. and cousins all had their own equipment, or needed sizes that were still in stock, so they were able to enjoy the best skiing south of Traverse City. Mom and Dad A., myself and Calvin had to resort to Plan B.

Plan B was a short trip south to “Caberfae Peaks”:http://www.caberfaepeaks.com/, which was still a well-regarded ski area. Somewhere in the ensuing travel, we had a “discussion on the Jetsons”:http://www.kyleandkelly.com/scribbles/geek_stuff/jetsons_ho/.

We hit the bunny hill for Calvin’s first attempt at skiing, and our first attempt at teaching someone new how to ski. After a few runs on the bunny hill, he was ready for the beginner slopes and the art of entering and exiting a ski lift. By the end of the day, he was being heavily recruited by several Olympic ski teams. Well, OK, he could make it down the beginner slopes under control and with only the occasional eggbeater/garage sale. It was all fun, which was what mattered.

Please tell me you have pictures of this! Calvin skiing, hehe! Kind of sucks that you had to split up. Maybe if I move to Denver you can visit and do some real skiing!

Oh better than that–we’ve got video (evil grin). Now I’ve actually got something to post to the video page. Unfortunately, the best stuff was Calvin’s very first run, which Dad got on video, so we’ll have to wait until I can get that from him.
