…and hopefully no funerals. Kelly and I will be attending four weddings over the space of four weekends beginning with this weekend. I’ll be doing the videography for three of the four and perhaps all four. Two of them are in Indianapolis at Englewood CC (the church I grew up in) and two are at Calvin CRC, our current church. Here’s the run down:

# July 31st, Joe and April Matz, Calvin CRC
# August 7, Eric and Lisl Hewitt, Englewood CC
# August 14, Steve and Andrea Shepherd, Calvin CRC
# August 21, Katie and Doug Williams, Englewood CC

Whew!

This is the one I’ve been looking forward to ever since I turned sixteen and got the keys to a car and a bill for the auto insurance–25 years old and officially a more responsible driver according to the insurance companies.

Many thanks to Mom and Dad for embarking on this adventure twenty five years and nine months ago!

Birthday List

Family News Comments Off

This one is for Mom :-)

Awhile back I posted about “automating our house”:http://www.kyleandkelly.com/scribbles/geek_stuff/jetsons_ho/ and now my birthday’s rolling around, so the X10 home automation stuff should be no surprise:

* Two “X10 Decorator Dimmer Switches”:http://www.x10.com/automation/ws12a_s.html
* One “X10 Keychain Remote Contorl System”:http://www.x10.com/automation/rc6500_s.html

That should be enough to remotely turn our dining room light on when we get home in the evening, and allow me to get my feet wet in this X10 stuff without too big an investment. Aside from the home automation stuff, Kelly informed me that I needed:

* Business casual pants in general (size 36/34)
* Black business casual pants specifically (all of mine are shades of tan and olive)

Finally, I’m saving up for a new desktop computer right now, so:

* Cash gifts always welcome :-)

This one’s been brewing in me for awhile, and recent events (including the Senate’s rejection of the proposed Amendment) have brought it to the surface.

Unlike many of my friends and family, I oppose a constitutional amendment to define marriage as between one man and one woman. I oppose it from two perspectives: one political, the other religious.

I recently wrapped up some freelance web design work on the “Life is Zen, Inc.”:http://www.lifeiszen.com web site; Life is Zen, Inc. is a marketing agency that caters to Zen Buddhists. I confess to initially accepting the job because the money was attractive; a pretty sinful reason looking back on it. That said, I want to start thinking about how I, as a Christian, should handle those times when my profession creates a nexus with the secular world. I want to be prepared the next time a situation like this arises.

My dad and I were having an e-mail discussion on “Firefox”:http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/, and he confessed that he had not yet configured his bookmarks, extensions and whatnot to take advantage of Firefox’s features. To which I replied:

bq. Perfectly understandable. Life is larger than a browser :-)

To which he replied:

bq. Whoa – that is deep! I trust you have that on your web site.

So there we go. It’s on the web site, preserved for posterity.

Sitting at the table tonight for dinner, Candie and I were talking when all of the sudden Kyle bursts in with “What’s up with “Beyonce’s new album cover”:http://www.sonymusic.de/beyonce/images/cover_dangerouslyinlove_150.jpg, is she like wearing a chain mail shirt with nothing underneath.” Immediately Candie and I glanced at each other and then at Kyle and then we laughed.
