Apparently I don’t post enough according to Candie. I thought that my rambling went unread, but due to the fact that I currently have an audience of at least one, I will post.

Okay so all I did today was get ready for work, work, then get ready for bed.

Since everything but work of these options seems mundane, I’ll tell you about work. No stories that involve guts or yuck today, just plain old abuse. For those of you (Candie I’m talking to my audience of uno now) who think that a nurses work is safe, think again.

Today while trying to give a patient insulin I was caught off guard by a phone hitting my chest. A bit confused for a moment, I then realized that the patient seemed to have flipped on me. So needle still in her arm she kept swinging at me with her phone. Luckily I’m pretty quick and only got nailed the first time. I quickly stepped back out of reach, while planning how to get the needle away from my suddenly irrate patient.

Well, I survived the whole ordeal and this is how my day typically goes. I consider myself very lucky if I don’t get hit, pooped on, or peed on in a day. Today was not one of those lucky days. Well, here’s hoping tomorrow is luckier.

On Tuesday… Ah well. Seems like a day late and a dollar short is becoming the norm for the holiday season.

As “blogged elsewhere”:http://www.livejournal.com/users/secretpineapple/80260.html, it was an eventful Thanksgiving for Kelly and I. I had two Thanksgiving dinners; one quickie with Kelly’s extended family on Thursday, and another with her immediate family and my immediate family (plus spouses) on Saturday.

We hosted the Saturday affair, which meant much menu planning, food purchasing, and house cleaning. It was actually quite good as I got motivated to knock off some home improvement tasks.

Jasper, Katie and Doug’s new puppy, was as cute as puppies can be, even with the “accidents”. He’s also quite docile, which came in handy when we snuck him into Barnes and Noble.

Peyton Manning’s record contract will ultimately be measured by whether he wins a Super Bowl for Indy. That said, I think most Colts fans have gotten quite a bit of entertainment value out of watching his incredible year. His stats in Madden 2005 will have to be through the roof good :-) Man, it’s been a lot of fun!

The other good news from the holiday weekend is that Kelly and I have lost a collective thirty one pounds. A whopping nineteen for Kelly and twelve for me; we joined a health-eating small group at church to help get our weight down where our doctors said it should be. Kelly’s also got a bet going with some fellow nurses–whoever loses the most weight by December 15 gets the $10 pot ($140 total).

Scribbles is under heavy spam comment attack. If you see comments for Texas Hold’em (or worse), bear with me. I try to clean them out on a regular basis, and I’m also looking for longer term solutions, but…

With the four wedding Kelly and I did video for in as many August weeks, I need to finish editing a video a week between now and Christmas. Fortuantely I learned this weekend, while dabling in a fun little side project, that you should never, ever, _ever_ turn off autosave on a Final Cut Express project.

A sad day for those of us who are in a good habit of exercise.

Our gym had a “massive fire yesterday”:http://www.mlive.com/news/muchronicle/index.ssf?/base/news-5/1100708118304840.xml and it is unknown when it will reopen much of the building.

I feel really bad for the owner. There was a picture of her on our paper and she looks just beside herself.

On a more selfish note my injuries include:

* A j-crew one piece bathing suit (I cannot easily find one piece bathing suits due to my mishapen state)
* Awesome headphones as well as my sister’s pair
* My tennis shoes
* My sister’s brand spanking new tennis shoes
* A lovely shower cap
* Shampoo, conditioner, and face wash
* Shower basket
* And lastly a combination lock that I can remember the combination for. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find my lock in the rubble.

“Senate May Ram Copyright Bill”:http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,65704,00.html

Here we go again–the entertainment industry is trying to strip away consumer rights so that they can make more money. Take note the groups aligned against the bill: consumer rights advocates *and* conservative lobbyists. My favorite quote, from Stacie Rumenap, deputy directory of the American Conservative Union: “It’s just plain wrong to make the Department of Justice Hollywood’s law firm.”

Duh.

Found “this”:http://www.kyleandkelly.com/scribbles/message1.mp3 on the answering machine tonight.

Let’s see:

# A 317 area code is Indianapolis
# I haven’t bought any Macs from Indy
# Macs don’t get recalled for viruses
# Apple Resellers usually don’t get yelled at by their wives for saying office hours are “6 AM” (listen closely to the female voice at the end of the message)

So connect the dots–the caller is:

# Someone in the Indy area
# A practical joker
# Someone familiar with my love of Macs
# In trouble with his wife

Don’t worry Katie, I won’t call at 6 AM :-) Can’t wait to talk to you guys!

Firefox 1.0 is “available for download”:http://spreadfirefox.com/community/?q=affiliates&id=580&t=61! What is Firefox? Firefox, simply put, is the best web browser out there. But, as Levar Burton used to say, “don’t take my word for it!”

bq. “Beware of spyware. If you can, use the Firefox browser.”:http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/computersecurity/2004-09-08-zombieinfect_x.htm –USA Today

bq. “Better than Internet Explorer by leaps and bounds.”:http://www.forbes.com/2004/09/29/cx_ah_0929tentech.html?partner=tentech_newsletter –Forbes

Step number one of safe web browsing is to “download Firefox”:http://spreadfirefox.com/community/?q=affiliates&id=580&t=61 and start using it instead of Internet Explorer. Have fun!

The “Presidential Guidester”:http://www.presidentialguidester.com/NSdefault.aspx uses the same sort of idea behind the various recommendation systems on the Internet to help undecided voters see how they match up with the candidates.

If you’ve ever shopped online, you’re probably familiar with the “people who bought what you just bought also liked…” stuff that makes recommendations based on your choices. Presidential Guidester runs along the same lines; I came across the link in the Wired article “Find Your Presidential Dreamboat”:http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,65565,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_3.

For the record, I scored 40% Kerry, 35% Nader, 25% Bush.

“cruft” is a word for crud, junk or stuff that accumulates over time. The dust bunnies under your bed are cruft. You also get virtual cruft on computers–the longer the computer’s been running, the more stuff that accumulates in its deep dark software recesses. The more stuff that accumulates, the more problems you have.

A couple of years ago, Dr. Dobb’s Journal columnist Verity Stob indentified the following levels of cruftiness for a Windows PC. My condolences to those of you who are all to familiar with the higher levels of cruftiness.

As stated on “electoral-vote.com”:http://www.electoral-vote.com/, this is the most analyzed and well-tracked election in history. Annnddd… we still don’t know what is going to happen.

Here’s a thought: it would be deliciously ironic if Bush were to win the popular vote yet lose the electoral vote, as enforced by a Supreme Court ruling. Double points if Florida can once again be at the center of the controversy. :-)
