As near as I’ve been able to gather, Sony filmed a commercial awhile back that involved “dumping mass quantities of bouncy balls”:http://www.flickr.com/photos/49503155830@N01/28841983/in/photostream/ “down one of the steep streets in San Francisco”:http://www.flickr.com/photos/49503155830@N01/29489512/in/photostream/. The area was closed off to all cars (any cars you see are props), nets were setup around the boundaries, and personnel went searching through shrubbery to pick up all the escapees.

I’m sure the bouncy balls enjoyed their few moments of wild freedom; wish I’d been there to see it. Kudos to the creative whiz that came up with the idea–this genius is my new hero.

This weekend is one of my favorite times of the year to be in Muskegon, Michigan. How many people get to sit on the toilet while watching “the Blue Angels buzz their house”:http://www.muskegonairfair.com/?

From BBSpot’s “What OS Are You”:http://bbspot.com/News/2003/01/os_quiz.php survey:

You are Windows 2000 SP3. You're a steady and reliable friend. People think you're all business, but with your recent therapy you've become a little more playful.

NNNNOOOOOOOO!!!

I’m a little behind in blogging, but that’s fodder for another post. At the end of June, I went off to a programming conference (JavaOne) in San Francisco (“photos”:http://www.flickr.com/photos/kyleandkelly/sets/513919/). I returned on the Friday of the July 4th weekend.

Kelly and I left for a mini-vacation to celebrate our third anniversary on Sunday. We went down to “Serenity Springs”:http://www.serenity-springs.com/ in Michigan City, IN. I’d highly recommend it to couples look for a romantic weekend get-away.

After a hectic month of June, our stay at Serenity Springs was a much-needed escape from reality. The whole experience at Springs is setup to force you to relax and take it slow. It’s definitely not for folks who vacation by being active and on-the-go

Our cabin was a one room affair, with a reading loft. The bed, couch, dining room table, and an in-floor jacuzzi tub are all centered around a corner fireplace/TV. You park your car at the office upon arrival and the staff take you via carriage back to your cabin. Once in your cabin, you communicate with the outside world via a butler door (there is no telephone).

The butler door is a small compartment in the wall, with doors that open to the inside and outside of the cabin. When you want something (food, movies, toiletries, etc.), you leave a note in the butler door and turn on an outside light to alert the staff. When they leave something in the butler door, they turn on an inside light to alert you. In short, you’re pretty well isolated from any outside contact.

One of the fun aspects to this system are the surprise deliveries. Throughout the day, various goodies show up in the butler door; baskets of fruit and muffins for breakfast, cheesecake for dinner, and smores for a nightly treat.

Between the treats, the utter lack of responsibility, and the alone-time we came home thoroughly refreshed and spoiled.

Vacation

Family News Comments Off

Well this week Wednesday started my official vacation and I’ve been squeezing in all sorts of fun. Tuesday night after work I went to the drive-in movies with my sister Candie. We saw Bewitched, it was cute. Then on Wednesday I spent the day at Michigan’s Adventure. Candie and I took some of the girls from youth group, Shannon, Erika, and Kristin. We rode the new Funnel of Fear, it was great. Thursday I ran a bunch of errands and got my brakes fixed. It is nice not to hear a squeeling noise anymore. This brings me to today. I went for a walk and have been attempting to do chores, however my banking website is not working so I can’t pay the bills. There is a secret smile on my face because I hate paying bills. Here’s to at home vacations – my favorite!!
