new new job Art in Ads

All four of our semi-regular visitors may have noticed: the site looks a little different. I finally got around to a much talked-about change and the site is finally settling in at its new digs. What does that mean for you?

First, the biggie: comments work again, yay! Second, the little things. You may be wondering where the photos and memories (i.e. the wiki with funny stories from our college days) have gone. They’re still around, though both will also be going through some changes to fit into the new world. I just haven’t had the chance yet to pull them out of the moving boxes, dust them off, and put them on shelves somewhere. With that said, you can get a “sneak preview of the photos”:http://www.flickr.com/photos/kyleandkelly/ over at Flickr.

This site has always been a work in progress, but I hope that will be especially evident in the upcoming months. The current design of the site was chosen because it provides a solid foundation, but it’s not the final product. Rather than creating a new masterpiece and unleashing it on the world (which was taking forever and part of the reason the move took so long) I’ve decided to split it up into smaller, more digestable pieces. Don’t be too surprised if you notice small changes each time you visit. On the other hand, it may sit stagnant for awhile. Unlike many of those home design TV shows, I’m not on a deadline :-)

Not bad, but Hemingway is fast becoming the next Papyrus (trending towards overuse). The template could be sexed up a bit with a few splashes of color and some images. Not unlike Ernest himself.

meh. That just shows how far behind I am. I have no idea what Papyrus is and I only saw Hemingway for the first time last week. But rest assure, I fully intend to sex up the template. Hemingway is to a well-designed Wordpress blog as mushroom soup is to a well-made meal.

  3. kyle Says:

Unless, of course, you don’t like mushroom soup. And there’s always the possibility I’ll get into this and think “Hemingway is a horrible template! What was I thinking?” Ah well.

  4. Christian Says:

Oh, you do too know what Papyrus is. It’s that horribly overused font that gets forgotten about amidst all the Ban Comic Sans hating. http://www.iheartpapyrus.com for examples.

  5. kyle Says:

Ah yes. Perfect example of “turn off brain, fire up Google.” I went off looking for “wordpress papyrus template.”

The first place I saw Hemingway was on http://www.andymatuschak.org, the website of that frighteningly brilliant kid who created Sparkle.

  7. kyle Says:

I stumbled across it as I was bookmarking CSS showcase sites (you probably saw the burst in delicious). http://www.jek2k.com is currently the featured site at http://www.unmatchedstyle.com — it’s a good example of where I intend to go with Hemingway.
