NPR’s Fresh Air had an interview with author Peggy Orenstein today; one of the things she said in the interview rang true for me. When asked what surprised her about being a parent:

The absolute vulnerability that you feel… my heart is walking around on the outside my body now and if anything happens to my heart it’s going to kill me.
