The riches of the Internet:
* The subtle beauty of subversive humor and unexpected virtuosity on the daily commute.
* A skillful blending of the old and new in a tribute to classic cinema.
* Utilitarian structures finding new life as striking architecture.
* Yes We Can.
One final note on the last item: Obama may be the most liberal Senator of 2007, but boy does he go down smooth.

Have no idea of what your Obama comment means. Sounds like it means, yea he’s liberal but who cares he has cool posters with cool slogans. That’s my best guess.

We loved the converted water tower (though again, insulation could be a real problem). We also liked the Grand Central video and violinist story.

It’s a little bit wider than just “cool posters with cool slogans”; he’s an gifted communicator who appears to have other similarly-talented folks translating his message into a variety of formats (video, print, the web, etc.). Consequently I think many people won’t even realize that he has such a liberal voting record; they won’t even get to the point of saying “yea he’s a liberal but who cares.”

Shortly after posting that explanation, this Washington Post piece caught my attention: Why Republicans Like Obama. Mr. Wehner does a good job of expanding the point I was trying to express.

Well said indeed. He is a gifted communicator and charming like Bill Clinton. The Republicans have long lacked such a person and McCain is not such a person. Huckabee may be such a person but I’ve not really seen enough of him to know. McCain’s running mate choice will be interesting. I’m guessing Condi. I don’t think McCain will fare well vs Obama; I think it will be tough to attack him in ways that might damage him without coming across as mean spirited and old school.
